Mental health disorders involve a wide range of conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior, affecting millions of people around the world. These conditions can greatly disrupt your ability to function daily, affecting your relationships, work, and overall quality of life.

Major diagnosable mental health disorders we treat include:

Despite presenting significant obstacles to your everyday life, many mental health disorders can be effectively treated or managed. With help from our licensed professionals, you can undergo a psychiatric evaluation to receive a diagnosis and begin a highly-tailored treatment plan.

Psychiatric Evaluation Basics

A psychiatric evaluation is the first stage of the treatment process, often considered “pre-therapy.” During the appointment, you and your doctor will discuss your symptoms, specific concerns, health history, and overall health.

At Elevate Psychiatry, every visit centers on your needs, concerns, and goals, making each appointment unique. However, you can typically expect your psychiatric evaluation to include:

  • Questions from your doctor that are based on the information you provide about your current challenges, as well as their observations and your health history.
  • Discussion of forms detailing your family history, physical/mental health history, and lifestyle.
  • Cognitive tests to help pinpoint possible causes of specific symptoms.
  • Development of a treatment plan, including medication or referrals to other providers for additional/specialized treatment (for example, a therapist).

The purpose of the evaluation is for us to establish a detailed understanding of your mental health needs, including potential contributors to distress and possible treatment options.

First Visit at Elevate

The Elevate First Visit, or psychiatric evaluation, is a comprehensive medical history evaluation, taking into account your past experience with psychiatry and psychology, medical problems, and other stressors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

At Elevate Psychiatry, we pride ourselves on creating a treatment plan that includes lifestyle modifications, diet, exercise, herbal remedies, and, if needed, over-the-counter and prescribed medications. Typically, your first visit will be about an hour long.

Signs That You Need a Psychiatric Evaluation

Stress, mood swings, sadness, and other forms of emotional distress are normal parts of the human experience and happen to all of us from time to time.

However, if negative feelings or other symptoms are severely impacting your quality of life or interfering with your ability to work, maintain relationships, or care for yourself, it may be time to seek professional help.

If you or a loved one is experiencing any of the following symptoms, a psychiatric evaluation can help:

  • Extreme lows or highs in mood
  • Excessive worrying or anxiety
  • Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or irritability
  • Hallucinations, delusions, or confusion
  • Withdrawal from socialization and activities that were previously enjoyable
  • Unexplained weight loss or gain
  • Trouble completing everyday tasks
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Difficulty sleeping (or constant exhaustion)
  • Dependence on drugs or alcohol

For many people, the thought of undergoing a psychiatric evaluation can be intimidating or even embarrassing. However, scheduling an evaluation is an exceptional sign of strength and willingness to move forward.

The sooner you seek treatment, the more likely you will be able to successfully improve (or even eliminate) your symptoms.

Psychiatric Evaluations with Elevate Psychiatry

If you have previously had a psychiatric evaluation but feel unsure or unsatisfied with the outcome, a “second opinion” evaluation can help bring peace of mind or identify other options for you.
