Seeing a Psychiatrist in Florida: Licensure, Telehealth Law & Prescriptions
Every Elevate Psychiatry clinician who treats you online holds an active Florida license. That matters: under Florida’s telehealth statute (Section 456.47, Florida Statutes), a telehealth provider caring for a patient in Florida must be licensed in Florida or hold a Florida telehealth registration, and is held to the same standard of care as an in-person visit. We only use Florida-licensed psychiatrists and psychiatric clinicians — there is no out-of-state call center behind our video visits.
- You must be physically in Florida during the visit. Florida residents traveling out of state should reschedule or join from a Florida address; snowbirds and students living in Florida part of the year are welcome while they are here.
- Prescriptions go to any Florida pharmacy. Your psychiatrist e-prescribes to the pharmacy you choose, from Key West to Pensacola.
- Controlled medications follow state and federal rules. Florida allows Schedule III–V medications to be prescribed by telehealth, and permits Schedule II medications (such as many ADHD stimulants) by telehealth when they treat a psychiatric disorder. Federal DEA telemedicine rules also apply; if your medication ever requires an in-person visit, your psychiatrist will tell you up front and can see you at our Doral or Coconut Grove office.

Online vs. In-Person: Choosing a Psychiatrist in Florida
Most adults across Florida choose fully virtual care — evaluations, medication management and follow-ups all work well over secure video. If you live in Miami-Dade or simply prefer to sit in the same room, the same clinicians see patients in person at our Coconut Grove office (3250 Mary St, Suite 300, Miami, FL 33133) and our Doral office (8200 NW 41st St, Suite 300, Doral, FL 33166). Treatments that must happen in the office, such as Spravato (esketamine) and TMS, are delivered there; everything else can move between video and in-person as your needs change. Can Prescriptions Be Sent to My Pharmacy Virtually?
Yes. Our psychiatrists can electronically prescribe medications directly to your preferred pharmacy anywhere in Florida. This includes most psychiatric medications. During your appointment, simply let your psychiatrist know which pharmacy you prefer, and the prescription will be sent electronically for your convenience.
